Arthur

The Arthurian figure, born from narratives composed in the 12th and 13th centuries in France (Chrétien de Troyes) and in England (Malory), is an endless source of creativity. It also appears in a parodic vein (Monty Python: Holy Grail!), closer to the sources (Perceval le Gallois) or melodramatic (First Knight). Boorman's adaptation, Excalibur, is a hybrid work that blends reference to the sources with spectacular mise-en-scène. These films take turns focusing on Arthur, Perceval, Gawain or Guinevere during notable episodes (the institution of the Round Table, the collapse of the kingdom).

In a satirical mode the series Kaamelott weaves contemporary expressions and ways of being into the fabric of the Arthurian quest; hence a constant disjunction that provokes laughter.
