3. Tea with the Mad Hatter.

Alice saw a table set under a tree, where the Hare was having tea with the Hatter. A deeply asleep dormouse was sitting between them, even though the table was very large. “There's no room! There's no room!” they cried when they saw Alice. “There's plenty of room!” replied Alice irritably, and she sat down.

The Hare offered her some wine, but there was only tea! Alice thought it was not very polite of him to offer it to her, and the Hare replied that it was not polite of her to sit down without being invited.

The Hatter broke the silence by taking his watch out of his pocket and looking at it anxiously: “What day of the month is it?” “The 4th!” And the Hatter lamented that his watch was two days slow. Alice thought the watch was very strange. The dormouse had fallen asleep again, so the Hatter poured some hot tea on his nose. The dormouse shook his head impatiently, then sang for so long that he had to be pinched to keep him quiet.

Alice left, complaining that it was the most ridiculous tea party she had ever been to in her life!
